FIELD NOTES

🏞️ A University of Colorado Boulder study of reservations at seven national parks found the most competitive permits went to visitors from ZIP codes with incomes $3,200 to $4,200 higher than same-day bookers. At Acadia, more than 90% of day-ahead Cadillac Mountain sunrise permits sold out within five minutes.

💧 Helen of Troy cut its full-year Home & Outdoor sales outlook to $851 million to $876 million, down from $859 million to $884 million, blaming weakness at Hydro Flask in a beverageware market its CFO called "a little bit saturated." The segment still grew 9.2% to $227.9 million in the fiscal second quarter.

🏔️ Amir Bar-Lev's Apple TV documentary on the 2021 first winter ascent of K2 is less a survival story than a look at ambition, national pride and who gets the credit, including whether Nirmal "Nims" Purja took the lion's share of the glory for Nepal's team. Purja was killed in an avalanche this year, between the film's Sundance premiere and its October 2 release.
